The Mountain - (48 hour project)

Jan 2014

This was a 48 hour challenge, for the Global Game Jam.

The theme was a quote that went "We do not see things as they are. We see them as we are.". Or something like that.

I worked with a single other person (see credits), whom I had never met before. We just thought it'd be more fun than to join a team of people we knew.

We decided to go in the complete opposite direction to what the quote was pointing at : "The world is shown to you as it is. You can't change it. You have to change yourself and adapt."

Our main concept ended up as : "When facing a mountain, do you climb over it, or dig underneath it ?"

You play as a Mountain God who's been zapped by another deiety and who looses his godly status. And so you get to choose one of three paths.

If you keep digging, your hammer will increase in size but your wings will diminish, and so will your jumping ability. But if you keep jumping, your hammer will become useless as a price for getting ginourmous wings.

But unknown to the player is that once you evolve one of the paths sufficiently, a new secret ability unlocks : a big enough hammer can break ANY block in the environment, allowing you to get to the mountain's core and become it's king ; and likewise large enough wings will allow the character to double-jump and reach the summit, to reach the heavens and become a god again.
